Warts from London?

Written by admin on February 24th, 2010

Did you know one of the most insulting things you can tell a person in Chicago is that they have London Warts?  Seriously, nothing is worse than being labelled as a wart from across the pond.  I went to a new client recently which is in a large downtown office building.   As usual, I needed to check in with the front desk and get a visitors badge for the week . I hand over my drivers license so they can enter in my name and what not, and I must have done something really wrong because this is what I received in return.
Really?  I can live with the London, happens all the time.  But Warts?  Come on.  I’ve got to walk around with the thing all week.

UPDATE BY MOLLY: You know the lady creating the badges tries to do this to everyone… she needs to make her day a bit more exciting!  I’d be Milly Warts… to which Landon replied “Oh, A Million Warts. I’d much rather be a wart from London than have a million”.

Big Day

Written by admin on February 15th, 2010

Griff has been a closet roller for some time now. I will have him down for tummy time and turn around for 1 second and he’ll have rolled over. Or when I come in to get him from a nap he’s on his back. Yesterday was monumental for us because not only did we film him rolling over (and he’ll do it over and over again), but we also got him laughing on camera.

He makes it look so effortless and stares at me after as if to say… “Mom, this is not a big deal”

In the Peru, Trujillo Mission. A temple has been announced, but construction has not yet started. We are hoping it will be built while they are there so we can go down for the dedication.

3 Month Update

Written by admin on February 1st, 2010

When I started this blog, I was on the verge of leaving the world of academia and enter into the life of a suit.  I thought I was clever enough to come up with a few funny ideas every once in a while to post.  However, I quickly realized I have nothing to offer except my pictures of my pregnant wife and newborn son.  There may be a day when I find something better to post than this…….

Well, on second thought, I’m pretty sure I have absolutely no chance.  How do I trump that?  Simple answer, I don’t.  It’s impossible.

As some people know, we’ve had an interesting last 2 months and have finally made it back to Chicago after I travelled a lot for work and Molly migrated south for a good part of the winter.  The bad part is that we forgot our camera.  I made up for it in the first couple hours we were back home though.  We also finally made it back to the pediatrician for a 3 month checkup.  We’ve been anxious to know where he stands on his size, he’s kind of a little guy.  The pediatrician told Molly not to worry  that he is smack dab in the middle at the 50th percentile.  That is until she remembered that he is actually 3 months old and not 2, that dropped him down into the 25th percentile.  This news completely dashed any hopes I had of having some of my posterity reach the 6′ plateau.  He is pretty strong though, so maybe a cornerback, or a 2nd baseman.  Dustin Pedroia isn’t a big dude and he won the AL MVP.  He obviously doesn’t let this affect him because he is still the happiest baby I know, he’ll smile at just about anything, even my dad.

Here’s a few more pictures as proof:

HOW SWEET IT IS

Written by admin on January 12th, 2010

Griff and I made it to Mesa and quickly had a party to look forward to. A bunch of my high school girlfriends came over for soup in bread bowls and sweetcakes… YUM! Most of us haven’t seen one another since graduation and we have all had a baby since then.

(Collette Warner and Eden, Hali Turk and Tillman, Amy Germaine and Max Jr, Sarah Bledsoe and Hudson, Lauren Pew and Emery, and Me and Griff… we missed those who couldn’t make it!)

Landon joined us December 18 and we had him all to ourselves for 3 weeks. (Thanks EY for paternity leave!) Griff had some great quality DAD time!

We’ve enjoyed time at the cabin, golfing, walks in the sun, and playing with my parents, Parker and Hali and our nephew Tillman.

We were lucky enough to steal away to Utah for a weekend with the Watts! Unfortunately, no pictures were taken on my end, but we were able to catch a few videos with the FLIP. Landon’s only request for his birthday was to ski with Daxon (age 6)  and Shane (turned 4 Jan 13) . Here is the evidence of that great day!

And the final BIG NEWS of the break is that my father has been called as a mission president. My parents will find out in February which mission and leave the end of June for 3 years.

We could not be more thrilled for them!

Since we will both be away for the better part of December and January, we decided to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Landon will be going to Atlanta on business, so Griff and I will be basking in the Arizona sun until January 29. The past 6 weeks have been a blast figuring out Griff’s quirks and personality. He is now 10 lb and 22 in. long.

He Smiles!

Written by admin on November 30th, 2009

Here are a few of the first smiles that were caught on camera.  Now, these are not the first ones ever, but we have not been able to get him to do it for the camera.  On Sunday we sat looking through the camera at him for a good 15 minutes waiting for him to smile, but he wouldn’t.  Once the camera was down, the smiles came back and were gone before we could get the camera up.  However, our patience paid off and we were able to get a few.  And, we love him!!

One Month Update

Written by admin on November 28th, 2009

One of the first questions people always ask when they hear we’ve had a baby is normally, “does he look more like mom or dad?”.  My answer to that question was always I have no idea.  He has darker skin and really dark hair, which matches perfectly with my white skin and reddish hair.  So, I guess I always assumed he looked more like Molly.  That is until we looked at the pictures below.  I could not believe how much he looked like me when I was a newborn.  So, sorry son, you might end up with fair skin and red hair after all.

Here’s newborn Griff.

Welcome to the World

Written by admin on October 29th, 2009

We officially welcomed Griffin Turk Watts to our family this week.  Griff was born October 26, 2009 at 7:18 AM.  He weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs 11 oz and 20.5 inches long (which by the way is longer than my nephew Ryne, take that Brad).
